Buckinghamshire (Bucks) is a county in the south east of England bordered by Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, London, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey. Renowned for being an area consisting of rolling hills and woodland the area is affectionately called "Leafy Bucks". Bucks has a number of large towns including Milton Keynes (largest), High Wycombe and Aylesbury (the county town). Being close to London makes the area popular with commuters and folk working from home who need to visit London often on business. The closest international airport is London Heathrow just over the border.
Tourists are attracted to Buckinghamshire for a number of reasons, the area has plenty of stately homes and superb gardens to visit as well as many other visitor attractions. The surrounding countryside is as many envisage the whole of England to appear with plenty of green space, hills and woodlands but of special note is the Chiltern Hills (often shortened to simply the Chilterns). Places to visit (towns listed below) include Ascott, a lovely little hamlet and a country house, .
Children (an big kids) may well be interested in the fact that Roald Dahl was one of Buckinghamshire's more famous inhabitants and while staying in the area you may wish to visit the Roald Dahl Children's Gallery and the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre. Other museums of note include the excellent Buckinghamshire County Museum and the Chiltern Open Air Museum.
Interesting buildings include a couple of windmills to visit (Brill Windmill and Pitstone Windmill) and Wycombe Abbey. Bucks has a number of other pretty religious buildings including Buckingham Chantry Chapel.
