Coastguard Cottages in East Sussex

East Sussex is a popular county situated in the South East of England which shares its borders with the counties of Kent, Surrey, and West Sussex with its southern border being coastline on the English Channel. With so much of the border being on the ENglish Channel it will not come as any great surprise to learn that the county makes for a superb UK vacation destination, especially seaside vacations. The two main seaside resorts are Brighton and Eastbourne but the only city in the county is an area which takes in two coastal towns, Brighton and Hove, which are relatively close to each other to, almost, make them one.

For family days out East Sussex has a variety of superb visitor attractions such as Smuggler’s Adventure which consists of a labyrinth of caves, Drusilla’s Park which is a zoo and adventure park, Paradise Park where you can learn about exotic plants and dinosaurs and Yesterday's World. Children (and older folk in search of their youth) may enjoy a trip to the village of Hartield which is famous for being where A.A Milne set the stories of Winnie the Pooh. It is possible to visit many of the actual places mentioned in the stories (though some names are slightly different), however it is important to note that the places are best explored on foot and this may prove too much for smaller children or those with mobility issues.

Other East Sussex attractions suitable for familes are Ashdown Forest Llama Park and Underwater World as well as a selection of farms (Farm World, Heaven Farm, Middle Farm, the Seven Sisters Sheep Centre and Spring Barn Farm Park) where you can learn about farming history, get some hands on experience, study rare breeds, see some traditional crafts or simply relax in a restaurant while the children play in a maize maze or haystack playground.

East Sussex is also a great destination for walking, rambling and cycling vacations with various walks and trails, ranging from relatively easy walks such as the 1km Oak Walk to the hugely adventerous Saxon Shore Way (261km) or the equally long Sussex Border Path (256km) which stretches from Thorney Island to Rye. In total Sussex has around 3500km of footpaths and recreational walks, more than enough to keep even the most avid hiker happy for the duration of even a long vacation.
