East Riding of Yorkshire (more often shsortened to East Yorkshire) is a mainly agricultural county in the North East of England. The county shares its borders with the counties of Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire and South Yorkshire. As a UK vacation destination the county is often (somewhat foolishly) overlooked in favour other, more well known, areas but East Yorkshire actually has much to offer the tourist.

One thing you will not fail to notice from out list of places to visit in East Yorkshire below, is that there appears to be many museums few historic houses and even less castles but a rather disproportionate number of grade I listed churches, monastic houses and other religious buildings but sadly many are in ruins. The county actually offers diverse vacation opportunities. Increasing numbers of folk are realising just how suitable a vacation destination East Yorkshire really is and tourism is now an important part of the regions economy.

East Yorkshire has only one city, Kingston upon Hull. Hull (as it is most often shortened to) sits on the northern bank of the Humber Estuary. At the start of the 20th Century the city was an important industrial and mercantile centre but, unfortunately, for much of that century Hull was in sharp decline and by the end of the century it was actually in a dire situation. Thankfully, during the last decade, the city has seen much investment and the revitalised city has a much more promising and optimistic future. As the city improves it becomes increasingly attractive as a vacation destination or more ideal for short city breaks this point has not been missed and there have been a fair few excellent visitor attractions developed of late that are the envy of many other cities around the North East area.
