England: Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire is a stunningly beautiful county in the East of England, in the general area which which is known as East Anglia, which shares its borders with the counties of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Greater London. It is one of the "Home Counties" bordering on London firmly placed within the Green Belt (half of the county is designated Green Belt) with lots of gorgeous countryside featuring woodlands, river valleys and agricultural land. As a UK vacation destination Hertfordshire provides the perfect environment for walking, rambling (there are more than 1,800 miles of public paths in Hertfordshire), cycling and similar types of vacation while being within easy reach of London and other fascinating places (the county is popular with London commuters).
The number of parks & gardens, woodlands and the likes is truly awesome and while Hertfordshire offers a wealth of opportunities for vacations which are based upon the great outdoors it also has a respectable number of historic buildings, grade I listed religious buildings, castles and other fascinating structures to visit.
Although much of the land area of Hertfordshire is countryside the local economy is mainly industrial and service industry related, many of the United Kingdom's most famous organisations have their main headquarters in the county and the region was once well known for its aircraft manufacture. For the visitor there are plenty of museums which document the regions associations with the aircraft industry which are well worth a visit.
Another great reason for taking a vacation in Hertfordshire is that you can enjoy all of the relaxing aspects of the county and yet you are only about twenty minutes from all of the wonderful world class visitor attractions that London has to offer!
