England: Leicestershire

Leicestershire is a landlocked county in central England which shares its borders with the counties of Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Staffordshire and Warwickshire. As a UK vacation destination the county is not really well known but this is not to say that it is not possible have an enjoyable vacation here. To make the most of a vacation in Leicestershire it is best to visit many places around your chosen base, as the county has a large number of places highly suitable for day trips.
The vast majority of interest lies in the west of the county where it is less industrial (though there are a few pockets here and there). It is in the North West of Leicestershire that you will find part of the new National Forest which continues into Derbyshire and Staffordshire. This fascinating venture aims to influence local landowners to pass over some of their land into woodland until about a third of the area consists of a forest. In the first few years they had managed to cover about seventeen percent of the land with millions of trees. Though the true beauty will not be seen for a long time yet it is already taking shape and places like the Conkers Discovery Centre at Moira and other ventures aim to promote tourism to the area.
