Somerset is a a mainly agricultural county in the south west of England. The county shares it's borders with the city of Bristol and the counties of Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. The county is mainly rural with few large conurbations and although there are plenty of places of outstanding beauty that are well worth visiting, such as the Mendip Hills and tthe Quantock Hills, you will find that Somerset has a wealth of first class visitor attractions making it a superb vacation destination for those interested in British historical houses, stately homes and the likes.
Although Taunton is the county town of Somerset it is most likely that you will find the city of Bath the most favourable place to stay. Bath has plenty of places to visit, enough to make the city an excellent destination for a weekend city break or short vacation, but is also serves well as a base for a touring vacation.
