England: South Yorkshire
South Yorkshire is a landlocked county in the North of England which shares its borders with the counties of; Derbyshire, the East Riding of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and West Yorkshire. As a UK vacation destination the county is not really that well known however the city of Sheffield is popular with daytrippers, shoppers and those in search of a good night out.
Once a thriving industrial powerhouse of the Industrial revolution, with its many coal and iron mines, and the steel industry in Sheffield, the region fell into sharp decline in the later part of the twentieth century. Unfortunately the county of South Yorkshire is now one of the less prosperous regions of Europe and it has not seen the massive investments which the likes of Leeds has witnessed over the last few decades. However having been identified as so funds have been made available from Europe and the first signs of investment are beginning to show, and all this is good news for the tourist as more modern facilities begin to appear. In the meantime you will find that there are actually rather an impressive number of visitor attractions in South Yorkshire and a variety of thoroughly enjoyable vacations can be had, often at bargain prices.
