England: Worcestershire
|
|
Worcestershire is a county in the West Midlands part of England which shares its borders with the counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands and Warwickshire. As a UK vacation destination the county benefits from being one of the most beautiful and readily accessible. Situated between the Cotswolds and the Malvern Hills much of Worcestershire's charm is in it's countryside.
The primary tourist attraction in Worcestershire is the cathedral town, and only city in the county, Worcester. Located on the banks of the gorgeous River Severn the city offers a range of visitor attractions but the main draw is the city and surrounding countryside rather than any one visitor attraction.
Throughout the county of Worcestershire you will find superb examples of English stately homes and historic buildings. The region has a rich history which can be explored in the numerous National Trust buildings as well as a range of superb museums.
There are a number of superb parks & gardens in Worcestershire, which range from small cottage gardens to the large country parks and open spaces, such as Spetchley Park. Due to the generally mild climate the county appears more lush than some of those further north and gardening is a popular pastime. The Rivers Avon, Severn (longest river in England) and Teme provide a wealth of vacation opportunities and other activities and even if you are only staying in the county for a short while it is well worth taking at least one riverboat trip.
