England: West Sussex : Arundel
Arundel is beautiful little market town, in West Sussex, England. Situated in the South Downs the town is dominated by the majestic Arundel Castle. Gaining it's name from the lovely River Arun (one of many theories about the town's Etymology), it is a major bridging point on the river.
The town of Arundel is extremely popular and during the peak of the tourist season it can get a little overcrowded. There are a number of things which attract the visitors in such large numbers, such as the castle, but there are a number of places to visit nearby which help make the town a wonderful place in which to take a vacation.

The town/village itself is rather small but it features the castle, Arundel Cathedral, an ancient 14th Century parish church, a museum, a wildfowl centre and, of course, the River Arun on which you can take boat cruises. Arundel is rather picturesque with a medieval appearance and can be considered one of the least spiolt towns in West Sussex. In the summer with a cricket match playing, on the ground below the castle, it would be really quite difficult to find anywhere so fundamentally English.
If you are planning a vacation or short stay in Arundel it is worth noting that there are a number of places nearby which merit a visit or, at the least, further investigation. High on the list of places to visit are the Amberley Working Museum and Bignor Roman Villa. Interestingly people born in the village are known locally as "Mullets" and the village is home to one of the world's oldest Scout Groups (1st Arundel formed in 1908 at the very start of the Scouting movement).
If you will be spending any amount of time in Arundel I suggest that you take the opportunity of taking a boat trip along the river. The picture to the left shows the "Arundel Castle" a 28 seat open boat belonging to Arundel Boatyard who offer a variety of boat trips along the River Arun in this boat. They also have a boat for hire, the "Sea Quest", which offers indoor/covered seating for up to twelve passengers, excellent for small groups/parties wishing to take their time along the river.
At various times of the year they offer a selection of special events, including BBQ cruises and fireworks cruises. For those in search of something a little different they even offer themed parties such as prirate pparties and even a jazz party complete with live band.
