Stranraer is a town in the region of Dumfries & Galloway in the South of Scotland. As a UK vacation destination the town is most widely known for being where most people would catch a ferry over to Belfast in Northern Ireland. If you are planning a trip to Belfast and you are departing from Stranraer it may actually be worth staying for a night's bed & breakfast in order to explore some of the visitor attractions in this part of Scotland. The town is actually rather a useful place to stay if you are planning a touring vacation, you get the advantage of all of the town's amenities and shopping and yet there are a surprising number of places to visit within relatively easy access.

Around the town of Stranraer there are a few places of interest such as the medieval tower house of the Castle of St John (pictured below right).
