Wales: Aberystwyth: Animalarium

The Animalarium at Borth is an incredibly popular visitor attraction near Aberystwyth and Machynlleth, Wales.

Home to an unusual range of animals ranging from the domestic and farm animals of the petting bard to the more exotic, such as Lemurs, Ocelots, Iguanas and Fruit Bats.

Wikipedia states the "The zoo is mainly a refuge for unwanted exotic pets, animals from other zoos made freely available for a variety of reasons, or whose natural environment is under threat." However there is much, much more to Animalarium than a collection of unwanted animals.

The facilities at Animalarium include a cafe which serves hot and cold drinks, snacks, cakes and sandwiches as well as ice cream etc. You will also find a souvenir and gift shop.

It will not be surprising to learn that other facilities are heavily orientated towards family entertainment with a number of play areas. There is a wendy house for children five and under, an indoor ball pool to keep the under eights happy, wooden rocking toys. two outdoor play areas featuring climbing frames and the likes and an outdoor sandpit which has sit on diggers. . Pony rides run twice daily from Easter to September plus a daily snake handling demonstration.

Like many zoos and similar establishments the Animalarium allows you to "adopt" an animal, in return for a small contribution you will recieve a certificate and photograph of your chosen animal and your name will appear an adoption board for a year (you will also be given the opportunity to renew your adoption annually).
