Air Travel Tickets Key To Travel Destination
By Charlie Cunningham
Regardless of what you pay for them or where you get them, you are not going to get on an airplane without air travel tickets. Boarding passes may be required to get on the plane, but air travel tickets is your ticket to your destination. They contain information concerning the flight, the aircraft as well as your itinerary.
In many ways, air travel tickets are like having cash in hand and should be handled as such, as most are refundable and can be cancelled. However, more restrictions have made it difficult to refund a ticket if it is not in the name of the person attempting to obtain a refund. This helps prevent the theft of air travel tickets for the purpose of stealing the money from the ticket costs.
Additionally, many reduced fare air travel tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable, meaning if the person whose name is on the ticket cannot use the ticket, the money paid is lost. No refund will be given and no one else can use the ticket. Many airlines did this to hedge against people buying tickets and canceling at the last minute leaving them with planes less than full, causing them financial burdens associated with cancelled air travel tickets.
Difficult To Give Air Travel Tickets As Gifts
With today's restrictions on air travel, buying tickets to give to someone as a gift is difficult, as the person's name has to be on the ticket. The name has to match their photo ID and without them matching, they may not get past the ticket counter, let alone getting to the boarding gate. Typically, you will have to supply a name at the time of purchase, even if buying air travel tickets online.
This safety requirement, in place to prevent unauthorized personnel from being able to use tickets designated for someone else, is also meant to spoil the chances of a criminal from getting on board an airliner under someone else's name. It may not stop the practice completely, but it does raise enough questions to make some people leery of attempting it.
Information on air travel tickets, in addition to the passenger's name, will also include the type of aircraft is being used, the flight number as well as point of origin and destination and times and elapsed time the flight is expected to be in the air. Information on final destination is also usually included, but if there are numerous stops on the route, only the ones pertaining to the passenger are included.
