Important Backpacking Strategies
By Andy Anderson
Backpacking is the activity that legends are made up of. Nearly everyone has at least one story of going backpacking – traveling somewhere, anywhere, with just a backpack on their backs. There is something of a freedom that comes along with backpacking – some people choose to take off for a destination with no plans other than simply where they are going. Backpacking in this fashion has become something that many people try to do at least once. However, without the correct backpacking strategies, it is very easy to end up with more frustrated memories than happy ones.
Have a General Plan
The most important of the backpacking strategies is to have a general plan of places you want to go and things you want to see. You certainly don't have to have the entire trip laid out before you, and you certainly don't have to have each thing planned ahead of time. But great backpacking strategies are that if you at least have a general idea of where you are going, you will find that you end up getting to most of the places you would like to get to.
Bring Everything With You
Another of the important backpacking strategies is to make sure that you are fully prepared for anything. You should be bringing along all of the toiletries that you are going to need during your trip, as well as having maps, phone cards, and everything else. Many things are marketed nowadays that are small and compact, that you can take with you wherever you go. These great backpacking strategies include bringing along laundry soap to wash your clothing in a hotel sink, instead of having to find a place to do your laundry. The more prepared that you are, you will find that the better time you have. It is always easy to bring along small items, so make sure that you incorporate these ideas into your backpacking strategies.
Open Your Mind
Another of the important backpacking strategies is to make sure that you are open to anything. A big part of backpacking is not knowing what is coming next, and changing your plans at the drop of a hat. These are important things to know, because the best way to make sure that you have fun while you are backpacking is to make sure that you are dealing with things in a much less stressful manner. Great backpacking strategies include simply taking it easy and taking it slowly.
