What You Need To Know About Bass Fishing
By Angus MacLeod
The biggest way to success in bass fishing is to have a knowledge and understanding of the fish themselves. Armed with this information you will have a more successful time when you are bass fishing. By knowing bass you will be able to consider all the circumstances and conditions when you are out fishing which will give you a greater chance of catching them. So you should consider all the key factors before you decide to head out bass fishing. First you should consider how a bass eats. A recent study placed several types of bait in tanks with bass; the result was that the majority of the time the bass preferred to eat anything in the crawfish family such as crayfish and crawdads. This is largely because they are easy for the bass to find and catch. However, this doesn't mean you should stick to crawfish all the time when bass fishing since there are still a number of other baits that will work just as well. Choosing the right bait for bass fishing is a matter of observing the conditions you are in and then trying out several baits until you figure out which one works the best.
Breathing
All creatures, even bass that live in the water, require oxygen to live. One may wonder what knowing the oxygen content of water will do for bass fishing. The fact is that if you are fishing in a place with lower oxygen content the bass are likely to be more disoriented and slow reacting. Next you are likely wondering how you can determine the oxygen content of the water. It is actually quite simple, the colder the water the greater the oxygen content and the hotter the water the less oxygen content there is. So if you are bass fishing in warm water it is generally a good idea to try deeper where the cold water is since bass prefer the colder climates to the warm climates.
Cover
This is the last key factor you need to consider when bass fishing. However, when it comes to bass this is an extremely important element to consider. Bass are likely to use cover to surprise and ambush their prey when they are looking for food. Bass also cannot be exposed to the sun for long periods of time otherwise they will go blind. For these reasons you are likely to find the greatest numbers of bass around covers such as plants or downed trees.
