Bass Fishing Intro

Bass fishing is now a $multi-billion industry and vastly different from the original sport of bass fishing which started around the beginning of the 19th century. In recent years there has been massive growth in the interest shown in fishing for bass. This may be due to the increased appearance of the sport on television and the clear enjoyment on the faces of the bass anglers as they fight to land their fish. The sustained growth in the sport has made it the most popular freshwater sport in America. As with most other sports there are many different levels to which you can take it. Bass fishing ranges from those who only go fishing a few times a year to those who have made a career of pro-bass fishing. Even more people make a living meeting the needs of the bass angler.

Modern Bass Fishing

Like other forms of fishing bass fishing requires specialist equipment such as rods, reels, lines and lures. Over the years the equipment developed into the technical masterpieces we see today. In the late 1950's there were developments made in the equipment which led to increased success in catching bass. This led to a growth in the sport and further developments across the range of equipment and the development of new tools such as fish finding instruments. Today we have a massive selection of tools and equipment ranging from highly specialized bass fishing lines, artificial lures and other tackle right up to specialist bass fishing boats.

Bass Fishing Budget Tips

Although there is a large selection of pro-bass fishing gear available you may be surprised to learn that you can get started with a relatively small budget. You can pick up a bass fishing rod and reel combo of reasonable quality for around $100, cheaper kit is available if your budget will not stretch that far but you will find the former better value for money. The sad truth is that the cheap equipment often breaks more easily. However, if you just need bass fishing gear for a one-off fishing trip it would be perfect.

If you are just starting out there is no need to purchase all the latest and greatest lures as a small selection is all that is required. You should aim to spend less than $50 on a few lures of various types. A few dollars more should see you fully equipped with your terminal tackle (Hooks, sinkers, swivels and line ) and around another $ten should equip you with a small tackle box to keep it all in.

When buying bass fishing gear for the first time remember that there is no need to buy anything other than the essentials. Your initial budget should be from around $130 to $200 depending very much upon your choice of rod and reel.
