Knowing Texas Bass Fishing
By Angus MacLeod
Texas is a state that has a lot of bass waters. Texas is known by most as big water fishing. There are several large lakes in Texas that are known for the size and quantity of bass. Texas bass fishing can be intimidating if a person doesn't know where to fish or they aren't familiar with the Texas bass fishing waters.
The best way to check out a lake in Texas is to find and hire a guide who will take people to where the bass are. Once the person knows the different places to fish they can later go back to those locations and catch fish on their own. Most guides make a living by guiding and they will take people to the best fishing waters.
Don't forget to tip the guide also. A tip of about one hundred dollars is good if they did a great job with the customers. Another great way to learn Texas bass fishing is to stop at a local bait shop by the lake and ask around. Most people will send a person in the right direction and tell them what is working.
It's a good idea to listen to the locals because they fish that particular water all of the time. It is also a good idea to stop and try to buy a topographical map of the lake bottom and use it to look for fish populations. Texas bass fishing is a lot of fun and if people go prepared, they can have a great day on the water.
Texas Bass Fishing Negatives
While Texas offers great bass fishing there are some things to think about when it comes to fishing big water. The first thing to be aware of is where a person is and where the dock is. Don't lose direction while on the water. Some lakes are so big that if a person gets lost they might run out of gas and spend the night on some rocky outcropping. The weather can play a big part in big water also.
Texas bass fishing on big water means constantly monitor the water and the clouds. Swells can develop in no time and people might think they were on the ocean. It isn't far fetched to have swells at five feet in the lake. Depending upon the size of the boat, this could sink the boat and put the people in the water which is never good.
