It does not matter how old you are, binoculars are the kind of device that will catch your fancy immediately. Whether you are 4 years old, or 40, the moment you see a pair of binoculars you will immediately want to look though it; and the thrill at discovering its powers is always fresh, no matter how many times you see a pair of binoculars – having one within your reach is highly exciting.

In case you are going to buy one, the following guidelines might be of help:

1. You should choose your binoculars based on what exactly you want to do with it. There are many things you can do with the help of a pair of binoculars, i.e. you could be bird watching, hunting for animals to photograph, gazing at the stars, or if you love looking at nature, etc. The binoculars you buy for leisure will definitely be different from that used for bird watching, for example. Hence, you should try to check out which particular model suits your style.

2. Pay attention to the objective diameter of your pair of binoculars – this particular aspect governs your capacity to see the image brightly, clearly. The right proportion would be that the objective diameter should be at the least five times its magnifying power.

3. Pay attention to the lenses of your binoculars – these will need to be coated to prevent reflection of the light which will in turn give you better clarity of larger images. The coating on the lenses is categorized in four main groups, i.e. totally multi coated (the best), fully coated, multi coated and just ‘coated'.

4. The fit in your hand of the pair of binoculars should be extremely comfortable to you. The latest types will fit in your hand taking into account the contours of your palm so it fits snugly whenever you choose to use it. In fact, its fit to your hand is of extreme importance, because without it half of the fun of using a pair of binoculars will be gone trying to get a comfortable grip of it.

5. Chose a renowned brand – when you go to buy anything of any importance to you, you should always buy the best there is available in the market (within your affordability parameter) by you. Identify what is the best brand available and try purchasing that. If not the first, try to be among the first five, so that you will be assured that you get a good quality device, which can give you many hours of unadulterated fun.
