Miniature Blue Tooth Earpieces – Help Or Hazard?
By Andrew Kelly

It's obvious that the technology today is getting smaller and smaller. Music records went from dinner plates to compact disks (CDs) the size of drink coasters, mobile phones went from bricks to matchboxes, and televisions went from fat to (literally) stick thin in what seemed like an overnight transition. This was mainly due to advancements in micro technology (such as Nano), spurred along by a competitive, not to mention booming, multi-million dollar market. Fashion, trends and a demand for better and faster technology have all had an impact on these advancements on a practical and entertaining for all. And along with must-have items come must-have accessories, such as the blue tooth earpiece, which are now smaller than ever before.

The Blue Tooth Earpiece

The blue tooth earpiece works by using radio frequencies to communicate with your mobile phone 9as opposed to leads and cords) so as to transmit the incoming and outgoing data (what you hear and say) to your ear, making it easier and more convenient for users to communicate while exercising, driving or typing for example. It is a technology that has in many ways made life easier and safer in the way it can allow the user to free their hands and multi-task while still carrying on a phone conversation.

Smaller Than Ever Before

A medical student in Russia has developed a blue tooth earpiece smaller than the size of a dime. It is so small that it is possible that it can be carried away by an ant! It measures in at approximately 6mm by 5mm by 10mm. It comes with the feature of having a detachable buzzer, making it suitable to be used at one's discretion. The miniature blue tooth earpiece can be linked to phones and other audio devices and also has a 3.5mm minijack output (standard headphone jack).

Could This Technology Be Detrimental?

Because of the blue tooth earpiece's size and capability to be used undetected, this type of miniature technology could become a target for fraudsters and thefts. Students could use them to cheat their way through exams; gamblers could use them to their advantage to gain the upper hand in a game of poker. The possibilities are endless, and although technology today has created a means to a faster, more reliable and easer technology system, is it possible that technology has gone too far?? It seems as though in some cases, technology takes the world one step forward, and three steps back. You decide.
