The Truth About Bluetooth Watches
By Andrew Kelly

Dick Tracy!

Anyone who has ever seen Dick Tracy takes away… β€œI wish I could have that watch”; the new Bluetooth watches are rumored to do very nearly that, take and receive calls via a wrist watch. How possible is it to use a wristwatch as a phone? Bluetooth watches are here and they are close to the comic book hype.

The Chronotech Bluevoice

A true Bluetooth watch cellular phone is found in a Chronotech Bluevoice; the device poses as an unassuming wristwatch, though a bit large and might remind someone of a 1980's era accessory it's only a joke until it rings and the user answers it! The design is simple and smart; when the phone rings simply push a button, the headset releases from the base and there is a comfortable rubber piece which rests in the ear. When the call is finished, simply place the headset back in the watch base and it looks like a watch again! It's so simple and so effective, very cool!

FOSSIL Bluetooth

FOSSIL's Bluetooth watch is not a phone but a caller ID device. It allows the wearer to keep their Bluetooth enabled cellular phone in their pocket, their Bluetooth wireless headset on their ear, and their FOSSIL Bluetooth watch on their wrist; this creates a PAN (personal area network) in which the devices will function together. When their cell phone rings in their pocket the signal will be sent to the watch with a caller identification, a button then controls whether the call will be answered or not; if the call is to be answered it is transferred to the Bluetooth headset, if not to voice mail.

Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Watch

FOSSIL, Sony, and Ericsson all worked together to make one of the most promising Bluetooth watches of 2007, it allows the wearer to discretely screen phone calls with their Bluetooth watch. Like the other Bluetooth watch by FOSSIL, this collaboration piece creates a PAN from the wireless headset, to the cellular device, and the time piece; the wearer is then able to decide which calls to answer or send to voice mail from the time piece interface.

Of the two watches this collaboration piece is definitely the sophisticated older brother it has a sleeker look and more features than the other Fossil wrist watch. The collaboration has an OLED screen that allows the wearer to manage the Bluetooth and call preferences through the wrist watch interface. Another way Bluetooth technology can simplify life for its user.
