Using Botox for Headache Pain

Although Botox on its own is a quite popular and well known matter, using Botox for headache pain is not as well known at all; basically what this is about is that researchers are currently conducting clinical trials in regards to the use of Botox for headache pain. This is in regards to the fact that recent studies have been done that suggest that Botox for headache pain is in fact a truthful matter.

Why use Botox for Headache Pain?

There are many reasons as to why you should use Botox for headache pain; basically what is involved here is that botulinum toxin is used, which is a neurotoxin which is produced by clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that thrive in that of poorly sterilized canned food and which produce the severe food poisoning called botulism.

Therefore, these are the toxin that are used to paralyze nerves, and how they do this is by blocking the release of a substance which is called acetylcholine, which then blocks the muscles and then prevents them from contracting, thereby causing paralysis.

In regards to more therapeutic uses, the Botox is injected directly into the muscle, rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream. And as well, it should be known that the amount used is only a fraction of the amount that causes botulism. The discovery of using Botox for migraine pain was actually discovered by accident, as several patients who were using Botox for injection of wrinkles also happened to have a migraine, and they reported a significant improvement in regards to their headaches following the injection of the Botox.

Throughout the time when this was first discovered, there have been careful tests and they are still being done, in regards to determining the reasoning behind how Botox works for migraines.

Doctors administer the Botox for this sort of headache pain by injecting it as a liquid under a patient's skin, and patients will typically get about 10 to 25 shots in the head, neck and shoulders. It is basically not exactly clear as of yet as to how or why Botox seems to curb headache pain and stiffness, however researchers so far believe that Botox blocks that of sensory nerves that relay pain messages to the brain and relaxes muscles, thus making them less sensitive to pain.
