Guide To Child Obesity Genetics
By Linda Rogers
Obesity is most commonly associated with overeating, however, that is not always the case, as child obesity genetics is yet another cause that is as popular. Statistics show that approximately 65% of US population is suffering from some form of obesity and that approximately 35% are due to genetics, in which case they may be able to pass it on to their children.
Regular Check Ups
Your medical history will be able to show if your genes are predisposed to obesity and if you are likely to pass it on to your children. You cannot correct child obesity genetics but, if you are aware that you or your child is predisposed to this disorder, you can take preventive steps to help keep in good health.
Let your child know as he or she grows up about the child obesity genetics and that he or she is not only in danger of getting obese, but he or she can pass it on, as well, to his or her children. Educating your child about this disorder can and will make a huge difference in maintaining a slim figure and good health.
Prevent Without Obsessing
Knowing about a disorder such as obesity can cause a lot of stress if you don't make this information available to your child in a way in which he or she is able to deal with it naturally and not obsessively. Starving yourself is as bad as overeating and such an obsession can become self destructive; parents that are or have suffered from overweight issues and know about child obesity genetics often make the mistake of obsessing over their child's eating habits, causing him or her harm in the process.
There are many other disorders to worry about when you know that your child is predisposed to obesity and some of them are hypertension, cardiovascular diseases that usually occur only when you are already obese, sleep apnea, diabetes and heart attack. However, obesity can be prevented, when you are aware of the child obesity genetics present, with healthy nutrition and exercise.
Eat Healthy And Exercise
Children that have obese genes may have to be slightly more careful about food and exercise as well, as they may have to undergo different types of treatments during puberty or pregnancy as they grow up in order to maintain the right weight during hormonal imbalances. However, obesity can be prevented and treated successfully and one can lead a happy, healthy and full life.
