Childhood Obesity Grants Contribute to Youthful Health
By Linda Rogers
Childhood obesity grants are available for a problem that has been acknowledged by many people. Statistics show that there are many children that can be classified as obese. The childhood obesity grants come from many different sources. The childhood obesity grants available demonstrate the interest of so many groups in this worthy cause. Childhood obesity grants are a response to the great need to help these children who acquire serious health problems at a very young age. The statistics on the rise in diabetes in young children are very disturbing. Diabetes is a very serious disease in young children, and there are other less serious diseases and conditions that occur more often in young children.
The childhood obesity grants come from public and private institutions. The governmental health agencies including the Centers for Disease Control offer grants in many different forms that are aimed at eliminating childhood obesity. There are also childhood obesity grants from state and local governments. The grants that come from the governmental agencies aim at different aspects of the problem. Some of the childhood obesity grants are restricted to medical fields. These grants are structured to assist those with medical expertise.
Childhood Obesity Grants Focus on Nutrition and Physical Activity
Poor nutritional habits are one of the reasons for childhood obesity so some of the childhood obesity grants focus on the nutritional problems. Young children eat fast foods more than ever before. They eat hamburgers and French fries more than their parents and grandparents. These young children rarely eat fruits and vegetables that are so important to their growth. The children eat and drink a great deal of sugar in the course of each day. They eat ice cream and candy that contribute to their obesity. They also drink sodas that have huge amounts of sugar and little nutritional value.
Childhood obesity grants also focus on programs that will encourage children to participate more in physical activity. The children today spend too much time in front of computers and television sets. They do not ride their bikes or play a sport outside after school as much as their parents and grandparents. Children today come home with lots of homework and do not have the time to go out and play with their friends. At school, the academics take the place of some of the time that they have to go out and run around.
