Research Shows Significant Relationship Between Child and Adult Obesity
By Linda Rogers
Childhood obesity is a real problem in the United States and in many other parts of the world. Statistics show that many children are obese, and this problem becomes worse every year. Unfortunately, there is also information gleaned from research that shows that obese children will grow to be obese adults. The old myth about children losing their baby fat does not necessarily happen. There are numerous research projects by skilled professionals that show these disturbing trends. The relationship between child and adult obesity is clearly demonstrated in several scientific studies.
The reverse is also shown in several studies. Children who maintain a normal weight will grow to be adults who maintain normal weight. These studies on the relationship between child and adult obesity provide information that can be used to plan strategies for helping children lead healthy lives. These studies on the relationship between child and adult obesity also demonstrate the need for serious efforts to help children maintain a normal weight. The problems of childhood obesity can begin with infants so the medical community and parents must understand the problem when a child is born and work to maintain normal weight beginning in infancy.
Relationship Between Child and Adult Obesity Must Be Addressed from Birth
Parents with their pediatricians should work together from the birth of a young child to ensure a proper nutritious diet. Poor diet is one of the major reasons for childhood obesity. Children who learn to eat properly from the beginning of their lives will keep these habits all of their lives. The reverse is also true. Parents should not depend on fast food outlets for feeding their children. Fast food is acceptable occasionally, but many children eat from these places much too often. The schools must provide snacks and meals that are designed by nutritional experts.
The relationship between child and adult obesity also means that children should be physically active from a very young age. Children should not depend on television and computers for their entertainment. They should be out in playgrounds and swimming pools to exercise regularly. Children should be involved in organized sporting activities when possible. Schools should provide time for children to be physically active during the school day. Schools should include organized physical education classes as part of their curriculum. The relationship between child and adult obesity is significant, and the important conclusions of many studies show that the problem of obesity must be solved while children are very young.
