Use an Indoor Christmas Decoration to bring the Outdoors Inside
By Audrey Sneddon
Just because you have an indoor Christmas decoration, that doesn't mean that the materials it is made from cannot come from nature. There are many natural elements from your yard that can create a beautiful indoor Christmas decoration for your home. These adornments that come directly from nature can make beautiful accents in your home, particularly if you like a rustic or country style of decorating. Crafts made from these materials can also make for fun family projects, since many ideas are suitable for kids to make as well. So grab your coat and head outside. It is time to start decorating!
Take it From the Trees
Your trees can provide many beautiful elements for creating an indoor Christmas decoration. Pinecones and acorns can be used to fill bowls and baskets, or spray painted with gold paint and glitter to be hung from Christmas tree branches or the boughs on your mantle. These items can also be glued to a wreath form to make a candle wring or added to a wreath as embellishment. Small branches and twigs can be shaped into star ornaments and tied with jute or raffia for a rustic look.
Hang these stars from your windows, trees or porch. Branches can also be used to craft wreaths and centerpieces. Pepper berry, holly or evergreen branches like boxwood and cedar make particularly lovely arrangements. Of course nothing beats the simplicity and fragrance of a basket of pine boughs adorning a fireplace hearth or entryway.
Add Color With Flowers
Most times an indoor Christmas decoration will include at least one poinsettia as an accent piece to a holiday room. Poinsettias come in a variety of colors from the radiant reds to the purest of whites, and most combinations in between. Another pretty holiday flower is the paper white narcissus, which begin as bulbs that you can force to bloom in indoor pots.
Kits for growing these holiday favorites are available at most nurseries and home improvement stores. Simply follow the directions on your package to enjoy the white blooms on your holiday table or mantle. Mistletoe balls are always a popular choice for a traditional indoor Christmas decoration. Hang them high, and hang them everywhere for plenty of friendly fun at your next Christmas get-together!
Finishing Touches for Your Indoor Christmas Decorating
You can put a final flourish on just about any part of your indoor Christmas decorating with the help of Christmas ribbon tied in pretty bows and glowing scented candles placed in strategic spots throughout your house. Add a pretty dish of Christmas candy here and a plate of fresh baked cookies there for a look that says “Welcome” to your seasonal guests. Light a fire in the fireplace, turn on your favorite Christmas music, and get ready to share your holiday spirit with friends and family.
