Preparing For a Beach Christmas Vacation
By Charlotte Pennington
Taking your family to the beach for Christmas vacation is a fun way to liven up the holiday. With a little planning and preparation you can bring all of your comforts and traditions with you, while still trying something new. To be sure you don't leave anything behind; here is a list of things to help you pack all your holiday essentials for your Christmas beach vacation. If you've rented a beach house for your holiday, and aren't convinced that driftwood and seashells are truly festive, you'll have to bring along your decorations. You'll have some more room to plan for decorations if you will be driving to the beach, but even if you're flying you can still bring a long an extra suitcase full of your must-have decorations. If you have room, bring along a small, artificial tree. You can easily find a foldable tree with a height of three feet or less. Most of them even come with lights, so that's one less item you'll have to pack.
Besides an artificial tree, some easy things to pack are tinsel, garland, artificial wreathes, candles, and of course stockings. For some additional decorations, grab a stack of inexpensive holiday cards and make some paper ornaments once you get to the beach. This could be a fun activity for everyone in your family to do on their Christmas beach vacation.
Food
If you're planning to cook Christmas meals at your beach house, you can probably obtain most of your necessary ingredients from a grocery nearby. But keep in mind that beach towns are not in full swing during the winter months, so you may be somewhat limited in the selection of foods available to you. The staple meats, breads, and vegetables shouldn't be too hard to come by, but if you have any other seasonal favorites, you may want to plan to bring those with you to keep your Christmas traditions alive during your Christmas beach vacation.
Gifts
When you're purchasing gifts, keep in mind that to be opened on Christmas morning they have to be transported with you. You may choose to avoid large gifts, or maybe just opt not to bring them with you. The promise of a gift waiting safely at home during a Christmas beach vacation is just as exciting. Alternatively, if you don't have small children, you and your family might just agree to open gifts when you all return home, if all family members live nearby.
