The Cruise: An Ideal Christmas Vacation Getaway
By Charlotte Pennington
While many people talk enthusiastically about going home for the holidays, many others wish they could plan a Christmas vacation getaway. People who want maximum Christmas fun with minimum effort should consider planning a cruise for the holiday season. Cruising makes an ideal Christmas vacation getaway for several reasons. First, cruising is extremely convenient. No matter how many ports your ship may visit, you will remain the same cabin, which means you only have to unpack your suitcases once. Second, almost everyone associates the holiday season with food. Cruise ships provide some form of delectable nourishment twenty-four hours per day, and the price of food is included in the cost of your cruise ticket. You can eat as much as you want of Christmas dinner and try every dessert on the ship without paying an extra dime. And, as an added benefit, when the meal is over, somebody else does the dishes.
A third reason that cruising makes an perfect Christmas vacation getaway is that the cruise ship stops at many interesting ports of call where you can do just about anything from lying on a warm beach to touring the most exclusive shops. Don't think you'll be bored on the ship, either. There are dozens of shipboard activities going on at any different time. Send your kids off to the teen dance club while you relax and watch a first-run movieā¦or squeeze in that workout you've been promising yourself. Finally, modern cruise ships have live entertainment that easily rivals anything seen on Broadway or in Las Vegas. With so much to do and see, taking the family on a cruise is a fun-for-everyone Christmas vacation getaway.
Where to Go?
Although a few cruise lines do offer trips to Alaska or Antarctica in the winter, most people prefer to seek warmer climates. Highly popular Christmas vacation getaway destinations include Hawaii, the Caribbean, South America, Pacific Riviera, and the Panama Canal. Cruises may last anywhere from three days for almost a month. Cruising is a highly competitive business. Any line that didn't offer stellar service wouldn't be around for long. That said, taking a moment to consider what you want from your cruise will help you make the best cruise line match for your family. For instance, if you know you will be bringing a lot of children along and you want their fun to be the main focus, look into the Disney Cruise ships. Disney offers a huge array of enjoyable activities for kids without neglecting the adults on board, either.
If you plan to spend as little as possible of your ideal Christmas vacation getaway sober, or if you like the "Las Vegas" atmosphere where day and night are almost indistinguishable, consider a Carnival Cruise. Known as a fun party line, Carnival will make your big boy and girl Christmas wishes come true. Finally, if you boast a reasonably high income and prefer an older, more sedate crowd, give Princess a try. The love boat still provides a fun time and a romantic atmosphere, but does so with sophistication and class. If you're looking to get away this holiday season, why not spend your Christmas vacation getaway on the water. The memories of the fun you'll have will last forever.
