Fibromyalgia Information: Ask Your Doctor First
By Phillip Johnstone
When you are diagnosed with fibromyalgia, the first thing you want to know is what it is and how you can get rid of it. Unfortunately, there is no cure for fibromyalgia and experts still don't really know what causes it. They just know the symptoms, which are characterized by fatigue, muscle and bone aches, as well as a number of others. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to fibromyalgia information. Your best bet is to ask your doctor as many questions about the disease that you can so that you can better understand the disorder you've been diagnosed with.
Regroup, Then Ask
When you are diagnosed with any disease or disorder, there is often a feeling of shock that comes over you. You can't really think straight and you certainly don't really know all the questions to ask. That's why, if you are diagnosed with a disorder such as fibromyalgia, you should wait until that shocked feeling wears off and then go back to your doctor. Prepare a list of questions that will give you as much fibromyalgia information as possible so that you actually know what you're dealing with.
Some Questions To Ask
Good questions to ask your doctor are what fibromyalgia is, what are the suspected causes, how is it treated and if there are any support groups that you can go to. Support groups are great because you know that you are surrounded by people who are going through the same thing you are. What might work for one person as a treatment may very well work for another and it's these types of things that support groups share with each other.
However, no matter what you ask your doctor, make sure you get all the fibromyalgia information you're after before you leave the doctor's office. Write the list down and take it with you. Don' t leave anything out. You want to know what you have and how to treat it and tell your doctor you want to know as much as possible.
If you're still hungry for more fibromyalgia information, there are many books on the subject or you could look it up on the internet. There's plenty of information on the internet, especially about fibromyalgia. It should be noted, though, that not all information on the internet is valid so you should always back up any fibromyalgia information you get off the internet with an actual credible source, such as your doctor.
