Fibromyalgia Treatment Targets The Symptoms
By Phillip Johnstone
Fibromyalgia affects five percent of the population which is about 6 million people in the United States. This condition produces intense pain throughout the body of the victim of this awful syndrome. The people who suffer from fibromyalgia also feel great fatigue and have a difficult time sleeping at night. These people are very disturbed by this condition so the researchers in the medical community have searched for the cause of this problem but have not found the source of the problem. The symptoms of fibromyalgia are very similar to arthritis except there are no outward signs such as swollen joints.
The mystery of fibromyalgia has forced physicians to make the fibromyalgia treatment a remedy for the symptoms rather than the root cause of the disease. The fibromyalgia treatment begins once the disease is diagnosed by the professionals. The doctors often delay the fibromyalgia treatment until all of the tests and screenings on the patient are in for evaluation. Then the doctors often wait to start the fibromyalgia treatment until the patient feels the intense pain of fibromyalgia continues for three months. The doctors often do not start the fibromyalgia treatment until they determine that there is tenderness in at least eleven tender points.
Fibromyalgia Treatment Starts When The Data Is Collected From Screenings
The fibromyalgia treatment starts when all of the information comes in from diagnostic tests. Sometimes the cases of fibromyalgia are mild, and the symptoms disappear without any fibromyalgia treatment. Other people do not feel the symptoms constantly and their fibromyalgia treatment is based on how they are affected by the condition. The fibromyalgia treatment is often a combination of recommendations from the attending physician. There is not a single treatment that will relieve the patients of this condition.
Most doctors will prescribe some type of pain medication for the patient depending on their tolerance for the different substances in each painkiller. These medications will often be recommended on an “as needed” basis. The patient will usually only take the medication when the pain is intense. Some doctors recommend antidepressant drugs for those suffering with fibromyalgia. Other medications include anti-inflammatory drugs. Doctors often recommend that patients attend support groups for those with similar concerns can often make others feel better about living with the condition. Vitamins, fish oil and other supplements are often recommended for the patients suffering from fibromyalgia. Doctors sometimes suggest that the patients visit a chiropractor who might help with the intense pain.
