How to Choose a Cigar Cutter

Cigars are usually rolled in tobacco leaves and in order to smoke them you will need to cut at the end that will go in the mouth in order to be able to reach to the cigar. Because cigars come in different shapes and sizes there are three main types of cigar cutters to assist in doing the perfect job and they are: straight cutters, wedge cutters and hole punchers.

The Use of the Straight Cigar Cutter

Straight cigar cutters come in two different forms, scissors and the guillotine; the scissor cigar cutter applies more force and is usually preferred for the thinner cigars as for the guillotine, it comes in single and double blade, the single blade is used on thinner cigars and the double blade in ticker ones that need a cleaner cut.

The Use of the Wedge Cigar Cutter

The wedge cigar cutter is similar to the guillotine cutter but does not deliver the same shape cut in the cigar but a wedge cut hence the name and some cigar smoker prefer it in order to draw out lesser amount of smoke at one time and thus, enjoy the cigar for longer time.

The Use of the Hole Punchers

Hole punchers are used on thinner cigars, which some don't want to cut; hole punchers are used on larger cigars as well but you may need to repeat the punch a couple of times in order to make a large enough hole to draw smoke from a thicker cigar.

The Most Common Cigar Cutter

The guillotine is the most common used cigar cutter because it is easy to use and it does not damage the cigar in the process as it may happen with the wedge or scissor cutters. It is very important to use the right cutter in order to be able to enjoy your cigar at its fullest without cutting too much into the cigar and at the same time without damaging it. The right way to cut a cigar is from the closed end, put the cutter over in for no more then half an inch and then with one single stroke of the cutter cut your cigar; if the cigar is thick you may want to use a double blade cigar cutter for a clean easy cut. If the cigar cutter is not sharp or strong enough for the size of the cigar you are about to cut it can ruin it by pulling at the tobacco leaves and even bringing it apart.
