Pectoral Implants For Men: Have A Masculine Looking Chest
By M. A. Fulmar
Women are no longer the only ones looking to enhance their chests. Increasingly men are looking towards the use of plastic surgery to provide them with the chests that biology failed give them. Sadly, shame at their appearance can be a factor in driving men to choose to undergo this type of surgery. Below we take a closer look at male pectoral implants and how they can work to help to raise some people's self esteem.
It is easier for some men, rather than others, to obtain the muscle tone and definition of the chest area that is considered appealing to women and the envy of many men. Exercise can often help but not really to the extent that most men desire. To help solve this problem the use of male pectoral implants can provide the appearance of a toned, well-sculpted and extremely masculine chest. The use of pectoral implant surgery can greatly enhance both the chest size and shape, the surgery involves the insertion of implants which are placed directly under the muscle. The pectoral implants used today are made using solid silicone in a similar fashion to that used in breast implants for women). During the operation any excess fat and/or glandular tissue is removed and, if required, a small amount of skin tissue is removed. The resulting chest will appear a great deal flatter, certainly firmer with an overall improvement in the man's physical appearance as well as providing a boost to his self-image.
Pre Surgery
At the initial consultation the surgeon will investigate your medical history and explain to you what is involved in the procedure and the subsequent risks and complications that could arise. The consultant will also discuss, with the patient, the various different sizes and shapes of the pectoral implants that are available. The plastic surgeon will help you to decide which is the best pectoral implant for your shape, the size of your muscles and the end result you wish for.
At this time it is of extreme importance that you are 100% honest and you must let him know if you smoke, take any form of drugs (both prescription and non- prescription such as over the counter drugs such as aspirin) as these can have a profound effect upon any form of cosmetic surgery. You must also discuss any other forms of surgery you may have had in the past and the results of it. In some cases patients can suffer the formation of keloids which is, basicly the overgrowth of scar tissue and it is important that you let the surgeon know if you have suffered from this.
Sometimes men who have suffered an injury to their chest or who have had growth defect which has resulted in the chest muscles remaining underdeveloped can use pectoral implants to repair the damage and have a more natural looking, symmetrical and masculine looking torso - much the same as female breast reconstructive surgery. In such cases it may be necessary to have the implant custom made so a mould of the chest would have to be taken and sent to a specialist laboratory to create your implant. It can take between six to eight weeks for the lab to construct it and therefore it may prove to be a little more expensive than the use of one of the many different types of "off the shelf" or "ready made" implants. To help save a little cash it is common for patients to opt for one of these pre-shaped pectoral implants which the surgeon can adapt by shaving away bits until the implant is the disired shape and size. Obviously this is not suitable in all cases.
Following your initial consultation and the creation of your implants you can begin to prepare yourself for the surgery. You will be happy to know that most pectoral implant surgery is conducted in hospital, under general anethesia but on an outpatient basis. The procedure usually only takes around an hour or two to complete. However, if endoscopic techniques are required, it may take a little bit longer.
Surgery
Usually surgery starts with a small incision being made in the armpit of the patient from where the implant is endoscopically inserted.
Endoscopic surgery requires the insertion of a thin tube containing an extremely smalll camera at the very tip of it. This cameral allows the surgeon a greater degree of precision by enabling him/her to see the exact path being taken through your body. With the use endoscopic methods it is possible to keep the size of the incision that is made in the patient's skin to a minimum. There are also other benefits to the patient and surgeonsuch as the fact that the amount of bleeding experienced during surgery is reduced drastically therefore allowing the surgeon to see more clearly. [An alternative approach used by many surgeons is to use non-endoscopic methods to conduct pectoral implant surgery.] The surgeon carefully places the implants directly under the pectoral muscle, keeping them in place using sutures that are temporarily showing through the skin (in many cases it is possible to avoid the use of sutures by allowing the overlying muscle to keep the implants in their correct position). Finally the surgeon closes the incisions under the armpit by suturing (or stitching) them and you are then ready to start on the road to recovery.
Post Surgery
It is common to experience mild to moderate pain following male pectoral implant surgery. The period to complete recovery, from surgery, is usually up to six weeks. However the vast majority of men find that they are able return to their regular activities within a month of surgery.
