Granite Counter Top Cleaner

Granite countertops can remain in perfect health if cared for properly! Although these work surfaces are the best available and, possibly, the toughest, there are times when they lose their "brand new" look and feel. It is when this happens that you should consider giving your counter top a little treat.

There are a few products available which have been designed especially for the care and maintainance of your granite counter top. Some are available in a spray form for easy application while others are available in a "bulk buy" tub which contain larger amounts and are generally cheap.

Granite needs to be sealed but over time this finish needs a little restoration. The granite counter top cleaner helps to restore the original seal with the added bonus that it cleans and shines the worktop. Furthermore, with regular use, the fluid helps to protect the granite from abrasives etc.

Cleaners which have been created purely for use on granite surfaces can, more often than not, be used on countertops made from other natural stone. For home users the fluids are usually scented slightly so that they release a pleasant aromatic scent when used, leaving your kitchen smelling clean and fresh. Most professional grade granite counter top cleaners do not have the added scent but do have a pleasant aroma. I suppose that their product is designed to create that "brand new" smell that you get when they are first installed.

The granite counter top cleaner shown to the left is a premium cleaner produced by Bayes. It is a professional grade cleaner which has been formulated to protect granite counter tops. The special formula incorporates the use of natural oils which both smells nice (a pleasant lemon scent) and helps bring out the natural sheen that makes your surface look like new and feel so smooth.

One advantage of the Bayes Premium Granite Countertop Cleaner is that it is non-abrasive. Many other cleaners rely upon abrasive materials, within their fluid, to remove dirt and grime. Unfortunately these abrasives tend to be a little too rough for a kitchen worktop as they can leave little tiny scratches on the surface which, over time, can leave the surface looking dull and lifeless. This cleaner avoids this problem by the use of non-abrasive materials PLUS it is non-toxic so very, very safe.

StoneTech produce a number of professional stone and tile cleaning products. To the right is their Professional All-Purpose Stone and Tile Cleaner Spray which is perfect for cleaning your granite counter top. This professional product leaves a pleasant fresh scent so is perfect for home use. It is advertised as a "streak-free" all purpose cleaner which implies that other products have a tendency to leave streaks! As well as being the perfect cleaner for granite, StoneTech's cleaner can be used on all other natural stone such as marble, travertine, porcelain and even limestone. It is also suitable for use on ceramic tiles and grout so, again, very useful in the kitchen and bathroom.

StoneTech produce a selection of other products designed for use on natural stone including granite. Most useful is their Oil Stain Remover which is well capable of removing deep, stubborn stains without discoloring the stone. It uses natural citrus as a solvent so it is safe for use on surfaces which have food contact. I would advise that this product is used first to remove any bad patches and then finish the rest of the surface with one of the cheaper granite counter top cleaner products.

One of the most useful and handy products that I have found are the StoneTech wipes. They are perfect for those everyday soils and spills. By using regularly you will be able to increase the time between each full clean of your granite countertop.
