Planning For Your Granite Countertop

Measuring for your countertops is relatively easy. You will need some rather basic tools, a piece of paper and a pencil together with a tape measure. Before you build your kitchen you will need to sketch a full floor plan which will show the shape of it. You must remember to include everything as every plan is different. You will need to include all aspects, including bars, islands or anything similar.

It is a good idea to do your floor plan to scale. This is pretty easy. All you need to do is purchase some graph paper. You then say that each square is equal to a particular measurement such as 1 square = 1 cm or 2 squares = 1 inch. If this is too difficult for you simply draw a neat floor plan and place measurements both in cm & inches.

When your sketch/floor plan or template is complete you can take it to your chosen supplier and he will be able to estimate the cost of your granite countertops. Many consider the creation of a hard template crucial to creating the perfect granite countertop but your plan should be all that is required.

When planning your kitchen remodeling project, consider the fact that it is possible that the total cost of installing a new kitchen could be recovered if you decide to sell your home. Consider money spent on your granite countertops as an investment. However you should only spend a suitable amount of cash and it would be stupid to spend too much on your kitchen if, say, you live in a very small apartment. It is generally accepted that an amount of 15% of your home value is the maximum that you should spend on your kitchen remodeling.
