Credit Cards And The Cashless Society
By Myles Johnstone

In today's plastic world, it is almost an absolute necessity to carry credit cards at all times, sometimes it does not matter if you want to charge your purchases or not. In almost all cases they are a necessity when paying for car rental, a motel reservation and when you wish to make a purchase online. Of course you are sometimes given the opportunity to print out the online order form which you can then mail containing your order with your check or money but buying it with credit cards certainly makes the whole process faster and will can bring your purchase to your home far quicker than if you had used another method of payment!

Sadly, not everyone is lucky enough to be able to qualify for credit, the requirements for most credit cards are increasingly becoming far more rigorous than ever before. Today it is virtually impossible for anyone that does not have the perfect credit scores to be able to get one. There are some companies which are making them available to those people but they come at a price, most often they have much higher interest rates and other charges are taken. For these reasons many many people believe that the extra expense is simply just not worth the hassle and added expense and therefore go without a card.

For most of us credit cards are a welcome form of convenience and safety, the ability to have instant access to financing those spur-of-the-moment purchases or the added safety of being able to travel without the need to carry large amounts of cash, are just two good reasons for possession of a Mastercard, Visa, American Express or one of the many other cards available. The majority of credit companies currently offer zero finance charges BUT only if the bill is paid in full upon receipt of the monthly statement. Typically low monthly payments are usually set for credit cards this gives us the facility to make long-term payment arrangements which can be extremely useful when making one of those larger purchases we need to make from time to time.

It Is Always Best To Stay Within Your Limits

There is no secret ingredient to good management of finances but maintaining your credit card health is possibly one of the most important aspects of remaining debt free. Staying well within your card's credit limit and ensuring that you make the monthly payments on time will go some way to keeping you in good graces with your credit card company. Paying the bill off in full when when you receive the monthly statement will help keep the expense of running your credit cards to an absolute minimum. It is important to remember that maintaining your reputation which you have gained by making regular on-time payments can greatly boost your credit rating.

Be careful as there are fees taken that us as credit card users may not see when we charge our purchases as these are typically paid by the vendor. If the retailer is able to offer the facility to pay by credit card he will have been assessed by the credit card companies before being allowed to offer the welcome convenience of credit cards to all of their customers. These hidden fees range from only a half-percent to as much as two percents, tacked onto the total purchase price that is charged to the vendor. Retailers usually figure this amount into the price of doing business and the cost is therefore part of the price they charge for their products or services.

While some people view credit cards as a necessary evil others see them as a general added expense they would rather do without. Most of us are happy to pay for the convenience of being able to drive through a fast-food restaurant and being able to buy a meal, fill our gas tanks etc. especially when we do this between paydays.

Yes, we are living in an increasingly cashless society and, in general, we accept this because of the many benefits that this brings. However there is a price to pay, this can be small if we manage things correctly but if we fail to do this the costs can be great - it is your responsibility to be careful.
