Crochet Can Give You Hours of Fun as a Hobby and Loads of Cash as an E-Venture
By Wendy Simons
Crocheting is relatively easy to do, so easy that virtually anybody is able to learn how to crochet. You can pick up the basics in only a few days and over time you will soon pick up speed and gain much expertise. By using various crochet patterns you will be able to make yourself any number of items that could be found useful in the modern home. With very little effort you will soon be knowledgeable enough to create your own gifts for family and friends.
Many people find that the craft brings them hours of fruitful enjoyment. If you or your children fancy the idea of taking it up as a hobby you will easily be able to find a suitable class as they are very commonly available in large towns or cities worldwide. One of the many reasons that it's popularity has remained is that excellent results can be gained within only a short time of learning the skill.
Earn Some Pennies With Crochet
The craft of crochet is a versatile and and wholly rewarding hobby enjoyed by many of various ages. Even though it is widely popular it is still possible to start home-based enterprise crocheting. Although this may appear daunting it is pretty easy to establish yourself rather quickly and word-of-mouth will soon let people know that you are a business person who can supply crocheted items. There are simply so many [patterns available that you will never be short of ideas for a new product and you will soon have a varied portfolio.
The development of a small crochet web site will benefit your company greatly. By taking photographs of every item you have produced you can soon develop an interesting site with minimum investment. You will be able to display your photographs, together with a price, and make them available to the general public. One great advantage to doing this is that you can have a photo of a crochet product that you have produced in the past but no longer have in stock. If somebody was to order one or more of this pattern it would be pretty easy to then produce it for them.
If your crochet site provides useful information on crocheting and has a selection of quality crochet items available you will soon find that it is popular. If you concentrate on quality you will also find that you gain new customers while retaining old ones who will make repeat orders. A simple site can be up in only a few hours but, if you want to make the site appear professional you will need to spend a little more time or actually have it built professionally.
A widely practiced way of gaining new customers is to offer a free gift, giving something away for free is a great idea, so great that I have done it myself with an ebook on crocheting available at the end of this article. I would suggest that you consider giving away a small item that is usually ordered in larger numbers, such as a napkin. This way you are introducing the customer to the idea that they should order a full set. However most people offer free postage, or simple offers such as the usual "buy one, get another free" or "buy three for the price of two". If you give your free items as much thought as any other marketing tactic I am sure you will have great success. Oh, here's another idea, 10% off your next order vouchers in with their order - that always goes down a treat.
As I have mentioned earlier there are a large number of crochet patterns available, some very old and some new. You can even find web sites that are dedicated to the provision of free crochet patterns and other related information which will help you greatly in setting up in business. You could even include a small section on your site to help those wishing to learn crocheting for themselves, including some tips on crocheting and advice on which are the best materials to use, which yarns you favor, and other information.
Always remember to bookmark these websites as there will come a time when you can consider them as a source of advertising. To make some extra cash from your site, besides crocheting your own items for sale, you can offer crocheting materials, crochet books and yarns. You could also consider diversification into knitting which is very popular with people with similar skills. You could include a section offering a few free knitting and crocheting patterns, free patterns always attract traffic.
Generating sufficient traffic to your site may require the development of a tailor-made marketing strategy, if you are not really that confident you should consider hiring a professional who would gladly help for, sometimes, a reasonable fee. However if you have products available online and a site with lots of unique information, and listings on the search engines, you will soon see the orders coming in on a regular basis. As I end this article I hope you have gained a little interest in developing a successful crochet business. If not I hope I have stirred an interest in the craft of crochet and I have a collection of articles below to help you understand the hobby a little better, I hope that you find them useful and informative.
