Crohn's Disease Symptom: What You Should Know About The Disease

Crohn's disease is an inflammation of the intestine of a person. It is named after the doctor who discovered the disease and described Crohn's disease symptom in 1932.

Crohn's disease symptoms varies in many patients depending on the location, severity and the extent of the inflammation in the intestine. However since this disease is very much associated with the stomach, the most common Crohn's disease symptom that you can observe is severe abdominal pain. In most cases, the patient would suffer such pain in the stomach that they find it difficult to stand up or move around.

Common Subtypes And Their Symptoms

Crohn's disease has many subtypes based on the location of the inflammation and ulcerations. Accordingly, Crohn's disease symptom would vary from one subtype to another. Two of the most common types of Crohn's disease is the terminal ileitis and ileo-colitis which are ulcerative colitis which affects either the rectum only or both the rectum and the sigmoid colon. Common symptoms involved in these subtypes include bloody stool and severe abdominal pain.

Another common subtype of the Crohn's disease is the Crohn's colitis where the inflammation is confined in the colon of the patient. Under this subtype, the patient would often have symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, anal fistulae and sometimes, peri-rectal abscesses can also take place.

Treatment

There are a number of treatments that have successfully helped the patients manage Crohn's disease symptom. These treatments include drug therapy, nutritional supplements and surgery depending on the circumstances of the patient. The goal of the treatment is to reduce the inflammation in the intestine, the rectal and the colon area as the case may be.

There are some patients who would require prolonged treatment. There have been many cases of successful treatment of Crohn's disease symptom. In fact, many patients have experienced long periods of remissions. However, there are also some patients who would require prolonged treatment to manage their Crohn's disease symptom.

No known Cure

Crohn's disease is one of the ailments that still have no cure as of today. Although there are many on-going test and studies on drugs that might be able to cure disease, none of these drugs have been successfully tested on humans. Experts say that it may still take some time before a cure for the disease could be found. In the meantime, the best that physicians can do is to manage the Crohn's disease symptom of the patient.
