The data collected will hopefully lead to increased productivity which should lead to greater profitability. The machines will of course collect important data, but this technology does not eliminate human beings. Most of the conclusions will have to be made by human workers.

The shop floor data collected is usually meant for the company from which it is gathered. Successful companies will probably find that their competitors will be most interested in this information as well. These competitors will want to know what makes the competition better. Competitors will probably like to know about the variables that are different in the two companies. The leaders at the competition will probably feel that the knowledge of this research will help them figure out how they can increase their productivity. The competition would love to know the factors that lead their rivals to greater profits and happier workers.
