Emergency Dental Care: Prepare For The Worst Before It Happens
By John Fraser

Sometimes, unforeseen things happen that affect our teeth, requiring us to seek out emergency dental care. For instance, you could trip on the stairs, fall and chip a tooth, or, you could get in some kind of accident causing some or all of your teeth to be knocked out or chipped. Point is, anything can happen to your teeth at any given time. Your teeth are strong, sure, but they're not invincible. Just like bone, they can break and then what do you do? If any of the above were to happen to you, do you know what you'd do? Do you know who you'd call? It's not pleasant to think about but you should have some kind of plan in place in case your teeth need emergency dental care.

Use The Phone Book

Your local yellow pages should let you know if there are any emergency dental care centers in your area. If you'd rather have your dentist, ask him or her if emergency dental care is offered in their office. You can sometimes get better deals with your own dentist and it sometimes just feels good to know that both your dental and emergency dental care are done by the same person, or at least by the same office. Your own dentist knows your dental history, which can be very important when dealing with an emergency dental care situation. For example, if your teeth were knocked out and your dentist needs to know what your teeth looked like before the accident, your dentist will have X-rays or sometimes even a mold of your teeth. This is crucial in an emergency dental care situation as, usually, emergencies happen at off hours and it would be a pain to have to wait for your dentist's office to open to retrieve such items. You can have your emergency dental care and everything you need right when you need it because your own dentist is handling everything.

Whatever you do, plan ahead and choose who you would call, or who you would see, should an emergency dental care situation happen to you. You never know what could happen to your pearly whites. And, besides, imagine going to work or school, or just out in public, with a missing tooth, or teeth. That would very embarrassing to a lot of people. Some people wouldn't leave the house and certainly wouldn't go to work or school because their teeth are considered part of their appearance. Teeth are a very important part of how we are perceived by others. For this reason, it would be a smart move to think about what you would do if you ever needed emergency dental care.
