Diabetic Neuropathy: Damaged Nerves In Diabetics
By M. A. Fulmar
When the nerves become damaged in persons that are suffering from diabetes, this condition is known as diabetic neuropathy. Damage to the nerves makes it hard on the nerves to carry messages to the brain as well as other body parts and may cause numbness and some amount of painful tingling in the body in different areas. With diabetic neuropathy, a person may find his or her strength as well as feelings in the body being affected and the heart may not be able to be at par in relation to the needs of the body.
Men May Not Be Able To Achieve Erection
Diabetic neuropathy is also responsible for the lack of ability of the intestines to properly digest food and also not letting a man achieve an erection. The cause of diabetic neuropathy may be ascribed to high levels of blood sugar that are above acceptable levels. With the passage of time, high blood sugar levels may cause havoc to the blood vessels as well as to nerves and diabetic neuropathy is also more common in men than in women and people who cannot control their blood sugar levels.
Obviously, to avoid being struck with diabetic neuropathy, one should keep the blood sugar at acceptable levels and also ingest medicines according to doctor's advice. One should also consume healthy foods and not eat foods that contain too much fat and sugar. Losing weight is also helpful in avoiding the occurrence and exercising regularly should also help inhibit diabetic neuropathy.
To find out whether you have diabetic neuropathy or not, you should ensure that there is no numbness in the feet and toes. Other symptoms of diabetic neuropathy are pain or burning feeling in the legs, lightheadedness that may result in falls and diarrhea as well as constipation and men may also not be able to achieve erection. There can be serious consequences to having diabetic neuropathy that may cause damage to the nerves in the legs and feet as well as cause general pain in parts of the body.
To prevent foot problems from diabetic neuropathy, one can check the feet daily and check within the shoes that there is no gravel or torn lining that could hurt the feet. It may also entail having a doctor check the feet at least once a year and also making sure that one wears the right shoes. Foot sores are often caused by ill-fitting shoes and in the case of new shoes, break them in slowly. In case of doubt and for more information, one should consult a doctor.
