Points to Consider when Shopping for Dog Beds
By Emily Sanchez
Dogs are number one, the favorite pet in the USA. Owners more often choose a pet which is complementary to their lifestyle, suitable for the living space and somewhat matching their personality. When choosing a dog for a pet every puppy looks perfect but you should consider that all small cute puppies grow to become vastly different. Breeds differ in shape and size but they also differ in their needs, such as, the food they eat and the exercise they require. These differences have a great impact on their requirements for sleeping facilities. Like us our dog will spend much of its life in bed so it is there are many points which should be considered when purchasing a dog bed, I hope you find the following useful.
Your Dog
Your pet's comfort is important and a dog that sleeps in comfort usually leads a happy and active life. After living with your animal for only a few months you begin to notice some of their characteristics unique to it's particular breed or pedigree. Your dog's habits are very important to keep in mind, they are often a pointer to any problems. If he/she enjoys chewing things it could be a signal to the pet suffering from stress and it is highly likely that their bed would be a suitable target for their chewing habit. In such cases a wicker crate would not be suitable and you should look to purchasing a chew proof dog bed which should be available at any good pet store.
Comfort and Accessibility
There are many different types of dog beds on the market today, ranging from small pillow-like mats to multi-tiered architecturally impressive masterpieces. The mats are easily placed on the floor but the larger types require a little more forward planning. The important thing you must do for your pet is to match the design to your dog's individual requirements.
Of course you may not be able to afford the most luxurious and expensive furniture beds but, depending on how much money you wish to spend, you are bound to find a suitable choice from the many different ones available at your local stores. Besides your dog's comfort you will also need to consider the accessibility as well as there is little point having a large enough bed if the animal is unable to climb in and out easily.
It is so easy to get the choice of dog beds wrong. It is common to buy your dogs first bed when you first acquire him/her so it is possible that it will not match your pet's personality and behaviour. Furthermore a dog will very quickly increase in size, especially is bought as a puppy, and therefore is likely to outgrow several dog beds within it's first few years in the home. When deciding upon the most suitable sleeping facilities one should always consider a dogs present size and the size to which it will eventually grow.
Various Types of Dog Beds
If you study your dog and carefully watch when it sleeps and how it likes to sleep it is far more likely that you will make the correct decision and choose the best dog bed and one which your pet would enjoy most.
Small lap dogs and dogs such as the "Yorky" (Yorkshire Terrier) will first approach it's bed as though studying it, it then sniffs a little then walks around in circles. Only after this unusual ritual will the terrier settle, curling up in a neat ball with it's nose tightly tucked in. Choosing the best bed for such an animal is easy, you should purchase a basket. The basket bed is most suitable for a number of reasons, as well as being the perfect shape it is highly suitable for the owner as they will find a basket far easier to lift. This is especially important for older people who would otherwise find it more difficult to move their little friend onto their couch or into another room.
Thinking of Yorkshire Terriers reminds me of those little coats that you so often see them wearing and how fussy so many of their owners can sometimes appear. They are available in all types of patterns in a multitude of colors and their owners will be pleased to know that dog beds are also available in such variety with masses of different shapes, designs, size and color, enough for an owner to find one which matches their pet's attire.
Mmmm, there are also many pet owners who scoff at such over indulgence and would never consider spoiling their dog so much but, rather strangely, it is pretty likely that this person would be extremely fussy about the homes decor. This type of owner would also benefit from such a large choice as they would be able to match the design of the dog bed with the design of their home - thus pampering their dog and themselves.
Whatever you decide you can be certain they you will be able to find suitable sleeping quarters for your best friend.
