DVD Easter Eggs Are There On The Discs, Just Waiting To Be Found
By Audrey Sneddon

There was a time long ago when record albums had “hidden” message soundtracks as well as “backmasking.” The Beatles did that on their White Album with the song Revolution Number 9, which had a message recorded backwards. Of course, to hear it, you had to have a turntable, like the ones found in radio stations, in order to play the songs backwards to catch the message. This “inside” information used to make one feel special as well as stand out from the crowd.

Modern Day Equivalent Of “Hidden” Messages And “Backmasking”

DVD Easter eggs are the modern day equivalent of those ancient recordings and these are new and exciting ways of discovering how to make customers feel special, as well as rewarded. People can now share “secrets” with others and a good example would be the Cars DVD that has hidden treasures, sure to be loved by aficionados. The song “Boundin' with Mater” is a case in point.

There is nothing more pleasing to customers than the making of a discovery that comes about from the finding of DVD Easter eggs. Whatever is the discovery; it should be exciting, remarkable as well as have some value. The discovery creates a buzz and also creates scarcity that makes a person feel more special.

The whole idea is that the DVD contains Easter eggs which are hidden features that are not mentioned in the documentation accompanying the DVD, nor can they be selected directly from a menu. Hunting down these DVD Easter eggs can be fun and there are so many titles to choose from that one can enjoy both the DVD as well as get a thrill in finding Easter eggs. For example, there are twelve DVD Easter eggs on The Incredibles two-disc set – all one need to know is how to find them.

To find the Easter eggs, timing is important and one may have to try more than once; and patience is indeed a virtue. The “Vanilla Sky” DVD Easter eggs are referred to as the “Gag Reel”. When one finds the Easter egg, it will show about five and a half minutes of outtakes, as well as informal footage of the cast and crew of the movie. All it takes to find the DVD Easter eggs is patience and maybe some help from those that are in the know.

All in all, the DVD Easter eggs are there to be discovered and there are also instructions available given by those that have had the good fortune of having discovered eggs scattered about on the DVD discs.
