Buying Easter Dresses
By Audrey Sneddon

There is a tradition for Easter where all the girls in a home get new Easter dresses to wear to church. It's a longstanding custom that many are familiar with, and in some households, the new Easter dresses are waited for eagerly.

In Roman times, wearing new clothes on Easter was considered to bring good luck, and in modern times, it's a way to celebrate the joy of the Easter holiday by looking the best you possibly can. If you're looking to buy Easter dresses for the girls in your household, here are some tips for your purchase.

Don't Fear Frills

Easter dresses have a tendency to be fancy, frilly numbers that certainly look girlish. Don't be afraid of this, since the look of such dresses is traditional, and there's simply nothing wrong with looking feminine at church.

Easter dresses have a quality to their look that's only matched by bridal and bridesmaid gowns and by prom dresses, so celebrate femininity and get a fancy dress. And be sure to get a dress that matches springtime colors, such as pink or yellow, to celebrate the season as well as the holiday. Easter dresses come in as many colors, but for a great look on the holiday, pastels or white are the way to go.

A Headpiece To Match

For an extra touch when purchasing your Easter dresses, consider some sort of hat to match the dress. Some Easter outfits will have little wreaths of flowers that you can place on your little girls' heads, adding to the airy, springtime look of their dresses.

Or, you can purchase or create your own Easter bonnet for wearing with the dress. This activity might be remembered by many from their own childhoods, when they decorated an Easter bonnet for wearing on Easter. With the right hat and a little creativity, your daughters will have pretty bonnets to wear with their Easter dresses and you'll have shared a fun Easter activity with them.

The Alternative

Of course, there's no hard and fast rule that says you need to buy Easter dresses for the girls in your household. There are a few good reasons not to spend the money on purchasing Easter dresses as well. The first is simple economics: if you don't have the money to buy the dresses, don't go out of your way for it. While it's nice to look pretty on Easter, it's not necessary and not quite as widely practiced anymore.

The other good reason not to spend the money on Easter dresses is that, in doing so, you put an emphasis on the material things that come with Easter and not the reasons behind the holiday itself.

Ultimately, though, the choice is up to you, and whether you purchase a brand new dress or just make sure your girls are in their Sunday best when the holiday hits, careful clothing selection will ensure that your girls look wonderful on Easter.
