Is Your Fire Alarm System Design According To The Common Standard?
By Arthur Sneddon
One of the most important parts of securing your home is by having a good fire alarm system. But buying one and simply installing it is not enough. Even if you are not an expert in determining the excellence of the fire alarm system, you should at least be aware of the basics of your fire alarm system design. This is to determine whether your fire alarm system was built according to the standard universal regulations, and whether is adequately efficient and protective, as up to common public standards.
The fire alarm system in your house may consist of various gadgets, which includes the main active alarm, sprinklers, heat detectors, smoke detectors, pull stations, call points, and many more. Each of these appliances is built according to certain quality standards, to ensure that they do not fail during the necessary hours and work efficiently all time around.
So What Is The Bounding?
Usually a fire alarm system design, regardless of the makers, must be performed by a competent engineer, who is greatly experienced in fire protection. This engineer must also be licensed within the geographical area of practice, usually within a country or province or even a state. When it comes to extensions of the fire alarm system, the particular fire alarm system design should be done using the original specifications used previously, and usually it is purported to fit the existing fire alarm system design.
This fire alarm system design does not only cover the main alarm, but should also include other devices or gadgets such as the initiating devices, notification devices, control panels, fire safety control devices, annunciation devices, power supplies, wiring, and many more. Basically the whole circuitry must comply with the set standards of common fire alarm system design.
The particular fire alarm system design which is given by the engineer much be in compliance with the NFPA 72 fire codes if it's in the United States. The design, together with the system layout, document submittal preparation, and supervision of installation and testing will usually provided by a technician who is certified of NICET level III or a registered fire protection engineer.
After all the quality testing is done, and the compliance level is determined, the fire alarm system design will go for production, and this can be made by any fire alarm makers such as Edwards, Simplex, and many more. There are also many other codes of standards, some of which you can download from the internet by paying a sum of subscription fee, or sometimes given free too.
