The Essentials in a Fire Alarm System Design
By Arthur Sneddon

Fire alarms are programmed devices to get activated when high temperatures are or smoke is applied. Today having a fire alarm is requirement, in offices, factories and other working spaces where work is performed with hazardous materials that can cause fire. It is also a necessity to have at least one fire alarm in the house as well especially in the kitchen where the possibility of a fire exists. A fire alarm system design placed in a public area must be is red in color to make it highly visible; must have clear instruction of how to activate it, for example: break glass to activate fire alarm. All fire alarm system designs must comply with the NFPA 72 fire codes and regulations unless it is approved otherwise. The fire alarm system designs that are placed in the house may not be red in color but need to comply to the NFPA 72 codes as well. Because there are many types of fire alarm system designs, it can be very confusing when the time comes to choose one; here too, laws and regulations will come to your rescue as, for factories and other working places there are clear specifications of what types of fire alarm systems must be used in order to ensure the safety of everyone working under that roof.

Why Is a Fire Alarm System Design Important?

Fire is extremely powerful and many times impossible to contain especially in places where you work with fire hazardous materials, chemicals and substances that will feed and make it even more intense and damaging. Fire has the power to damage almost anything beside that fact that the smoke alone is damaging enough to be fatal if you have inhaled large quantities as it is formed of carbon monoxide that is poisonous to humans.

A fire alarm can successfully prevent a disaster, damage and save lives in the process and that is the main reason why it is a requirement in offices and factories and a necessity in every house, as you never know when your life may be at risk.

Most houses have smoke detectors instead of fire alarms because smoke rises quickly to the ceiling and it gets the sensor activated; smoke alone can kill one in minutes if you don't act quickly. Most large companies are required now to have a minimal training as far as fire accidents and evacuations are concerned; at home it would be of great help to get the family together and discuss how to handle a fire or smoke situation in order for everyone to be prepared when and if a fire accident happens. Being prepared in such instances can save lives as well as cut down on panic or shock, which happens with some when faced with a crisis.
