Fire Alarms Are Essential Appliances
By Arthur Sneddon

Fire alarms are not luxury items that a homeowner or landlord can install if there is extra money available to spend on a property. Fire alarms must be placed in all homes and offices to insure the safety and security of the occupants and their guests. Fire alarms are required by law in some places, and in all places they are placed and maintained by responsible people. Fortunately, technological advances have made placement and maintenance of fire alarms easier for the average person. Few people would think about doing without a refrigerator, and they would know immediately if this appliance were not working.

Fire alarms are just as important, maybe more so, and these appliances must be maintained on a regular basis for optimum performance. These appliances are usually installed in homes when they are built, and most homeowners and landlords install these in older or established buildings. The fire alarms must be checked carefully to make sure that they will work in an emergency, or these alarms are totally useless. Fortunately, the maintenance of fire alarms is easy to do by anyone capable of reading and following the instructions.

Fire Alarms Save Lives and Property

Many people feel that if there is a fire in their home they will know about it without the aid of a fire alarm. They carefully place their lighting fixtures and appliances with the proper safety measures so there will not be a fire in their homes. Fortunately, many people never have a fire in their homes, and this could lead to complacency about the use and maintenance of alarms. Unfortunately, every year there are people burned alive because they did not place or maintain their alarm system. People find themselves in trouble when they fall asleep, and a fire starts somewhere in their home. The first signs of a fire is often the smoke and rather than waking a person up to find the source of the fire, the smoke can put the person into a deeper sleep until it is too late to wake up to escape the fire.

Fire alarms are available at the local home improvement store for reasonable prices. These alarms are very sensitive to the first signs of smoke in a building and the loud sound emitted by a good alarm will wake all the occupants of the building. Some alarms can be hooked up to a local security firm, or the local fire department so if the occupant is away when a fire breaks out, the contracted company or city service will respond to the fire before the absent occupant returns home to a burned out home.
