Choose Right Fishing Gear For Right Water
By Angus MacLeod

Planning to spend the day at the lake or beside a river trying to lure fish onto a hook will require the right fishing gear for the environment in which you will fish and the type of fish you are after. The condition of the water in which you will fish will also lay a role in choosing the fishing gear required for your outing.

Fly fishing will obviously require fly fishing gear such as a fly reel and pole, fly fishing line and, of course, flies. As far as the flies are concerned you can tie your own or purchase some proven styles depending on the time of year and what the fish will believe to be its natural prey. Waders, fishing vest and spare flies for when you lose them on the stream's shallow, rocky bottom.

Several rivers and streams lend themselves for a day of bank fishing and for this different fishing gear is needed. Perhaps and bait casting reel or spinning reel for tight casting, along with the right bait for the time of year as well as the type of fish will be needed. Being able to hit the water with all the fishing gear you need for the day will make it much more enjoyable.

Only Carry As Much As You Need

Unless you can park your vehicle next to the water, you should carefully plan what fishing gear you will need for the excursion. If it is a long walk to the fishing hole carry only what you think you are going to need, remembering you will have a bunch of fish to carry on the way back. Lessen the load of equipment you carry as much as possible and do not let the fishing gear become an unnecessary burden.

For lake fishing, your fishing gear will probably be of heavier duty that you would use at the river, but it still does not have to be overwhelming. An experienced fisherman will have a good idea of what works best of different bodies of water and only carry what is best for that particular location. You should not carry more fishing gear than you will need just because you have the room for it.

If you are going on a deep sea adventure, it would probably be best to rent the fishing gear from the charter service you have contracted. There is a good chance you may use this specialized equipment very infrequently and the cost of buying it and the space needed to store it will be a waste.
