The Most Commonly Forgotten Piece Of Fishing Equipment
By Angus MacLeod

The quickest way to ruin a perfectly good and successful fishing trip is by getting a ticket. It is important that aside from following all of the safety precautions and equipment demands of fishing, you also abide by the law. In many states and areas, it is illegal for you to fish there without a fishing license. Obtaining a fishing license is fast, easy and inexpensive.

What is it?

A fishing license is a document that you can buy in order to allow you to fish in certain areas. You can get a lifetime license as well. There are several different types of licensees that you need to be sure that you've selected the right one for the place that you're planning on fishing. You can get a freshwater license, or a saltwater license. So you need to be sure of which one you will use the most often, or which one you need for a specific location before you make the investment.

Why?

It is against the law to fish in a lot of areas without a fishing license. For recreational and commercial fishing alike, it is important to carry your license with you when you are fishing. The law is set in place to keep track of large catches and to keep a legal limit on the number of rare and large fish you are allowed to hook and take home. This is a precautionary measure, much like hunting, to keep the species in that area from lacking and becoming scarce.

Where Do I Get It?

Obtaining a fishing license is easier than you think. You can pick up a fishing license at most local sporting good stores, the tax collectors office, and even online. They are relatively inexpensive, considering a lifetime permit to saltwater fish is around one hundred and fifty dollars! All you need to qualify for a fishing license is your drivers license. Even children can get a kids permit. For the most part you need to be a resident of the area in which you are trying to fish, when you are trying to buy the fishing license. If you are going on vacation somewhere that you would like to fish, you will need to obtain your license from that state. You can purchase a two week fishing license or a five day license dependent upon your needs at the time.

While planning your big fishing trip, make sure you have all of the equipment you need, a fishing rod, some bait, etc., but don't forget your fishing license!
