To Catch a Fish, Your Need a Fishing Lure
By Angus MacLeod

You're planning a fishing trip, and to prepare, you are getting lots of new fishing gear. You have the rod, and the tackle box, and all you need now are some good fishing lures. True, there are a lot of different fishing lures to choose from, but there are a few ways to find a really good fishing lure.

About Fishing Lures

In the early days of fishing, the equipment was simple. In fact, some cultures just made due with nets. However, in modern times, with fish populations becoming more precarious with each passing year, certain methods have been developed to catch fish.

The most popular form of bait has been a worm or some other kind of insect. These insects can be purchased from bait shops frozen, but the most efficient way of purchasing them is live. The bait has to be skewered on the hook, and for many, this is a step that they would rather skip.

This is where fishing lures came into existence. Fishing lures mean exactly what their name implies: they are designed to attract the fish. Fishing lures have a hook attached to them, so when the fish sees it and is attracted by it, it bites the lure, and is caught by the hook.

When it comes to selecting the right fishing lure, the first thing you must consider is where you intend to go fishing. Will you be fishing in the saltwater of the ocean, or will you be fishing in the fresh water of a lake? Both areas have different kinds of fish, and because of this, the fish will be attracted to different kinds of lures.

For example, in the ocean, fish are often attracted to colorful things that move. You can purchase a fishing lure that comes in fluorescent colors, and that move with the current of the water. In fresh water, fish are more attracted to insects, so purchase a fishing lure that looks like an insect to attract these kinds of fish.

You can find fishing lures in a variety of places, including local sporting goods stores and the internet. However, don't just get a lure because you like the look of it; get it because it is what the kind of fish you want to catch would be attracted by. With the proper research, you are sure to find the ideal fishing lure.

Interesting Fish Facts & Fishing Tips
Even though fish are cold blooded it is known that they can suffer a sensation similar to pain. They can also suffer from stress so the angler should take great care when releasing them from their hooks. Many anglers now use barbless hooks and practice catch-and-release.
