You Want Elegance and Low-Maintenance Flooring– Check out the Slate Flooring
By Arthur Sneddon
Slate is a type of stone, which is widely used for flooring today. Previously, this stone was used mainly for places, which attracted high traffic as well as for buildings' exteriors. Since these stones are extremely durable, stain free, slip-resistant and low-maintenance they slowly moved into homes as a favorite choice for flooring. The stone is available in many shapes, which can be used in any combination you want for making your flooring as attractive as you want it. The slate flooring can be done both in smooth finish and in rough finish for added show. Besides, there are many colors to choose from, i.e. brown, gray, sea green, dark green and even purple.
Why People Prefer Slate Flooring Over Other Materials
Since the slate flooring has excellent properties like being waterproof and non-staining it is highly preferred for kitchen flooring, and all other places where water is continuously available such as, bathroom flooring and wall tiles, backsplashes, hallways, driveways, walkways, pool walls, fire place walls, spas, waterfalls. The slate flooring is fast becoming a great favorite for kitchen flooring because it is the best comparing to all the available choices, i.e. vinyl and linoleum, parquet, ceramic tiles, etc. When compared to vinyl and linoleum the slate flooring is far more durable and easy to maintain. Vinyl flooring looses its charm in about five years time when it starts peeling off and its colors start fading. Linoleum too has this problem; besides, it comes in limited number of colors and designs. Some people use parquet and hardwood in the kitchen; though this is extremely attractive, maintenance is very high and even then, the floor does swell due to constant humidity and usage.
The slate flooring on the other hand is exceptionally adaptable, beautiful and needs almost no maintenance even when used in the kitchen. Moreover, the slate flooring works out to be more economical than most of the flooring choices available. It is not surprising then, that people are increasingly choosing this type of flooring over other types. An added plus point is that it provides exceptional insulation from heat and cold. The slate flooring is also fire resistant and thus this type of flooring, besides beautifying your home, it makes it safer as well – a thing than few other flooring will do for you.
To summarize, slate flooring is a an excellent choice for flooring in general, and particularly well matched for kitchens, and all other places where there is a lot usage that involves water and humidity.
