Golf Swing: The Secret to Golf Success

The golf swing is a complex rotational manipulation of the body to propel the golf club head to the maximum speed possible to make contact with the golf ball to drive it up the fairway. The body behaves like a coiled spring transferring the energy from the body, through the club and into the ball.

The full golf swing is incredibly difficult to learn and even more difficult to master. Even players of many years experience find, that when they employ the services of a coach, they have been using incorrect golf swing techniques and they find themselves having to learn their golf swing from scratch.

If you are just starting to learn how to play golf and you can afford a few basic golf lessons it would be wise to do so at the earliest opportunity. Your trainer will show you how to swing a golf club correctly, a few lessons learning the fundamentals will set you on the right path to the perfect golf swing. Without professional instruction it is highly likely that you will develop a simple golf swing that you find most comfortable and easy to perform but ultimately the mechanics will be wrong.

A common mistake is to treat the process as though you are aiming to hit the ball with the golf club. What? I hear you asking, I thought that was the object of the swing? Well yes and no, of course this is the objective but to perfect the swing it is best to align your swing so that the golf ball lies in it's path. You may have seen golfers going through their drill without having a ball, this is not as daft as it seems!

The golf swing should be a smooth and majestic movement which continues after contact with the ball has been made. Too many golfers find themselves concentrating more on the ball than their swing with many spoiling their technique by actually looking at the ball for far too long during their swing. Yes it is alright to look at the ball but if you ponder upon it for too long it will spoil the swing. It is far better to practice by aiming your swing towards the position on the fairway where you would like to see the ball flying. Fix your "mind's eye" upon the ball and then align the path of your swing so that the ball is in the path of the golf club's head as you swing. This will produce a much smoother action and therefore better results.

Remember, when learning golf a few golf lessons will help you develop a better golf swing which you can practice until you can next afford more lessons. Even if you can only afford a couple it will be money well spent. Most people learn to crawl before they learn to walk and in golf it is best to learn the fundamentals before you look to obtaining the perfect golf swing!
