Essential Golf Equipment: Golf Clubs

In order to play the game of golf, there are certain pieces of equipment required. Some of these pieces of golf equipment are absolutely required, while other pieces of equipment are optional. Some optional equipment could include golf shoes, golf gloves, golf hat and a golf cart. The required items of equipment that are needed to play the game in include golf tees, golf balls and golf clubs.

Of those three items, golf clubs are probably the most critical. Golf clubs are the key tools to play the game of golf and can be categorized into two separate areas. Those areas are the drivers and irons.

Drivers

Generally, the first golf club that a golfer uses to drive the ball off of the tee is a driver. With the driver the golfer attempts to drive or hit the ball down the fairway at the greatest distance possible. However, it is important to make sure that with the initial drive you do not sacrifice accuracy for distance.

Therefore, selecting the right driver is an important purchase. When selecting this golf club it is important to take into consideration the length of the shaft of the golf club. This consideration should be based upon the golfer's height. Most golfer's who range in height from 5'2” to 5'10” can normally use a standard length club.

Drivers can be manufactured using traditional wood materials or can be made from metals such as titanium. In addition there are many features that can be incorporated on this golf club that will help the golfer with their golf swing. One such feature is fusion technology which helps to shift the weight of the driver's head to compensate for the swing of the golfer.

Irons

The golf clubs that are known as the irons are those golf clubs that are used after the initial drive off of the tee. As with the driver the shaft of the iron must be in proportion to the golfer's height.

Generally, there are 8 clubs that make up a set of iron golf clubs. The heads of these golf clubs can be made of graphite or steel. In addition they can be forged or casted. Forging an iron golf club is similar to how a blacksmith forges their work and consists of the basic form being hammered out. Casting involves the substance used to formulate the iron being poured into a pre-fabricated mold.

Irons are distinguished from other golf clubs in that the heads are angled. Each of the irons maybe graduated in their angle by ½ inch.
